Australia ranks the 3rd highest in Life expectancy in the world, according to Global burden of disease study, 2013. With an average life expectancy of 81.4 years, it is ranked one of the healthiest nations globally.
The Government in Australia spends more to ensure health care is provided to its residents. As per the latest report, it constitutes 9.5% of the GDP in 2011-12 and 9.3% in 2010-11 and is on the increasing trend over the past years.

Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme ensures subsidy on medicines under prescription. Low income earners who possess a valid Identity card for the same are entitled to receive medicines under this scheme.
Under Medicare, almost 100% of hospitalisation expenses and about 75% of General Practitioner expenses and nearly 85% of costs towards consultation with Specialists are covered.
Private Health Insurances also offer Health Insurance which is termed as “Health Funds“. Medibank is the leading name in private health insurance.
