Partner Visas – Provisional to Permanent

Partner visas can be applied by 

  • married partners 
  • de-facto partners (including same-sex relationship)
  • fiancé(e)s (prospective spouses)

of :

  • An Australian citizens, 
  • An Australian Permanent residents and, 
  • A eligible New Zealand citizen living in Australia

Partner visa applications are processed in two stages:

  • First a Temporary residence (Provisional) visa is granted, 
  • Leading to Permanent residency visa after the stipulated period of relationship is maintained.

An applicant is sponsored by their Australian resident partner. 
Dependent children and other dependent family members of the applicant may be included with the application, provided they meet the stipulated requirements.

Partner visa applications can be made both on-shore and offshore. 
However, applications for Fiancé(e)s or prospective marriage visas can only be lodged from offshore.
