Duration of Visa and further options

Australian Permanent residents can live and stay in Australia indefinitely.

However, all visa associated with Permanent residency grant expires in 5 years.

This permanent residency visa cannot be extended, and there is no need for an extension if the holder does not leave Australia.

After the expiry of the Permanent residency visa, if the holder wants to leave Australia and return back, they need to apply for a Resident Return Visa.

Alternately an Australian Permanent resident can also apply for Australian citizenship allowing them to hold an Australian passport, thereby requiring no visa thereafter to travel to and from Australia.
