Family Visas

Family Visas

Picture

Most Australian Visas inherently allow for applicants to include their partners and dependents in the initial application. All Australian permanent resident visa requires the applicant and his family unit members to meet the health and character criteria, even if they are not included in the initial application or do not intend to live or travel with the primary applicant to Australia.

A family unit member is an applicant’s:

  • Spouse or de facto partner
  • Dependent children
  • Other dependent family members

Permanent residency visa may be refused to all applicants, if any member of the family does not meet the Character or Health requirements.

Many Temporary visa holders can apply to include their family unit members under the same subclass of the visa they hold. (e.g.: Temporary Work Visas or Study visa)
There are some Temporary visas that do not allow for a family member to be included in the same subclass of visa, instead family members may be eligible to apply for a separate visa (e.g.: Working holiday Visas, Visitor Visas)

This sub section deals with Family visas available to applicants of:

  • Australian citizens,
  • Australian Permanent Visa holders and
  • eligible New Zealand citizens living in Australia,

who need to apply for a separate visa to join their family in Australia.
