Transit Visa (SC 771)

This visa allows a person to transit through Australia 

  • on the way to another country 
  • or to join a ship as a member of the crew.

The transit period cannot be more than 72 hours.
Dependent children can be included in the same visa application, if travelling along.

Travelers to third country must have: 

  • onward confirmed tickets 
  • and appropriate immigration entry documents/permission

There is no fee charged for a Transit Visa

Transit Visa (SC 771) - Requirements

  • Hold a booking and relevant documentation to enter another country, or
  • Hold a Maritime Crew Visa (SC 988) and relevant crew documents
  • Maximum stay period in Australia – 72 Hours
  • Must meet the health and character requirements as prescribed
  • Must be outside Australia at the time of lodgment and grant
  • Can include accompanying family members in same application.
  • Cannot work in Australia

Note: Ship crew members travelling on a Transit visa who arrive in Australia by air must sign onto their ship within 5 days; else their Maritime crew visa (SC 988) may also cease.
