Student Visa (SC 500) – Foreign Affairs and Defense Sector

This visa enables a student to study or train as a:

  • Foreign Affairs student under a scholarship scheme or a program approved by the Foreign Minister, or
  • A Defense sector student under a scholarship scheme or a program approved by the Defense Minister.

These courses or training programs need not necessarily be registered under CRICOS.

Student Visa requirements – FA & D Sector

Following is a summary of requirements for meeting the criteria for a SC 500 visa under the Foreign Affairs and Defense Sector. 

  • Provide a letter of support from either the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade or Department of Defense
  • All applicants to meet the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement.
  • Primary applicants to meet English language requirements as per study pr training program requirement.
  • Meet Financial capacity requirements based as prescribed.
  • Evidence of school enrollments for school-age dependents.
  • Meet health and character requirements as prescribed for all applicants.
  • Have adequate Health Insurance cover while in Australia for all applicants.
  • Meet additional requirements as per program enrolled.

Specific requirements for each applicant on factors like GTE requirement, Financial capacity evidence etc. is based on individualcircumstances.

Other requirements for a SC 500 visa may be based on factors including nationality of passport, duration of course, course provider requirements, past immigration history etc.
