Student Visa holders are granted a Subclass 500 Visa, under one of the following sector of studies.
- Independent ELICOS Sector – English Language Study
- Schools Sector – For Primary and High School Students
- Vocational Education & Training Sector – Diploma and Associate Degree studies
- Higher Education Sector – Bachelor and Master Degree studies
- Postgraduate Research Sector – PhD and Post Graduate (by research) studies
- Non-award Sector– Certificate courses and other Bridging studies
- Foreign Affairs or Defense Sector– Having support of Foreign or Defense Minister in related courses
