Student Visa (SC 500) – Primary & Secondary School Study

School age students can apply for a student visa to study in a primary or secondary school in Australia.

Students under the age of 18 years should have welfare arrangements in place in Australia. 

The requirements for this may include:

  • Nominating a parent/legal guardian or a relative over the age of 21 years in Australia, or
  • evidence that a person meeting above criteria is accompanying student on a SC 190 – Student Guardian Visa.

Student Visa requirements – School Sector

Following is a summary of requirements for meeting the criteria for a SC 500 visa under the School Sector. 

  • Enrolment – To be enrolled for a course of study that is registered on CRICOS.
  • Students under 18 years must have welfare arrangements in place.
  • Meet the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement.
  • Have English language ability as per age, class or course provider.
  • Meet Financial capacity requirements based on course, duration, nationality of passport holder etc.
  • Meet health and character requirements as prescribed.
  • Have adequate Health Insurance cover while in Australia.
  • Meet additional requirements as per school and course enrolled.

Specific requirements for each applicant on factors like Welfare arrangements, GTE requirement, Financial capacity evidence etc. is based on individual circumstances. 
Other requirements for a SC 500 visa may be based on factors including nationality of passport, duration of course, course provider requirements, past immigration history etc.
